    Vigilante

Zorntok recently was much pleased to return a kidnapped citizen from bandits. But we almost failed, because of the laws of the lands.

    Much to ponder...
Do not the citizens deserve the same justice as the nobles? Hmmm

    random thoughts
After long days of journeys, I have much to muse on. Zorntok will need to update his journal more often! Here are some random thoughts.

    • I recently saw a human mage (of some sort), Dorian Gray. I have not seen him since Vargas, where he took part in strange behavior. He has a presence about him. I think I will speak with him when next we meet.
    • Recently Zorntok has become too much like the city people. Zorntok worries to much about treasure, coin, and even status lately. Una and I will need to spend some time with my home clan to the north and remember our roots (and for Una to learn more about hers)
    • Galen and Alldren are now part of the Skunk Clan. Zorntok looks forward to hunting with them.
    • I have heard much about a place called Fentons Crossing lately. We will head there in a few weeks.
    • Zorntok has an item that, for no good reason, scares me to own. I will get rid of it. But it, from what I have been told, is worth much. I will seek out those that I respect that can handle such a thing and let them make some sort of barter to rid me of it.

    Impossible Task? Answers...
After speaking for a long time with an elder, he has said he can provide me what I need, which is called a Spirit Forge, which will allow me to be able to create a Ward sooner than later
    4:01 pm
    Impossible task!
One reason that Zorntok travels is to seek the knowledge of some elder or magi that can help me figure out this problem I have....

Zorntok wants to make the barbarian woman Una his wife.

Una's tribe has said "Una may only travel with Zorntok if she travels with Zorntok's tribe". So, I created a tribe, the Skunk Clan.

Una's tribe then said "Una may only stay with Zorntok if he can build her armor to keep her safe". Zorntok studied and learned the skill of armor smithing.

Then, Una's tribe said "Zorntok must be able to provide a house for Una to live in!" Well, Zorntok thought this an odd thing, since Una's people prefer to live in the open plains or woods, but I did not question - I am learning the skill of building houses.

But now Una's tribe has said "Una may only marry Zorntok if he can protect her - by creating mystical wards on there home!". I think this is some sort of trickery - first off, if I could cast the spell necessary to create a Ward, then Una would see me using Sky Magic, which she (and her entire clan) hates! But that isn't even my biggest problem. Zorntok can use scrolls to summon low level Celestial power, but no scroll can create a ward, is that not so? It would take Zorntok, who currently studies Earth Magic, years and years of study to master the skills to Celestial Magics!

How can I achive this skill in any time sooner than years of study!?

    On to Starlans
Zorntok had much trouble decided if he should travel toward Lumberton Shire or Starlans. But finally we decided that we have never been to Starlans and should see what sort of place it is. I hope that the Widow Jonath will forgive me for not visiting her and checking on her and Junior.

From the words of the Notari elders...

Do not use the magics against Tyrra (no chaos).

Punishment: Removal of tongue, starved for 5 days, forced to stand on hot coals during the entire five days, hobbled at knees and ankles, scalped, and then finally left for dead.

    Notes for next Vargas....
"I'm seeking a carpenter to help shore up my llama pens. They seem to keep getting out. I nearly lost them about a week ago.

I can pay or trade some small coin for services. See me at my home, not far from the new Vargus.

    Govenor
At some point, the Govenor of Vargas invited Zorntok and the crowd from Mori Ken into his home and gave us a drink and gifts. Then we were told the Govenor wished to be alone and were dismissed. I do not know what this means, but it must be the custom of the Drae and I will respond in kind upon my next visit to Vargas.

    Midnight Wolves

Zorntok met with Tolric the Mage during his time in Vargas and spent time traveling and adventuring with him. My thought was to have an alliance with him – he and his Midnight Wolves are well respected in the land of Izendor.

Sildan the Mystic Wood Elf also travled with us, and at some point, he attacked me needlessly. Tolric came to my aid and saved me, and then in compassion, spared the Wood Elf his life. Zorntok is honored by Tolrics actions and will seek to do the same for him.

The Free City, Stonegate, and madness
Zorntok had recently dealt with the Kingdom of Stonegate…at least in a small way. He had conversation with Avila Segovia, Lord High Warden of Stonegate, who told him that our small clan, The Skunk Clan, could not join as an official guild because we will not follow the law of Stonegate. So be it, and I understand this.

But, Zorntok has now seen the opposite. The Free City of Vargas is a land outside of Stonegate, and lawlessness rules it seems. Crazy humans toss chaos energies around with little care and crazed elves argue that Chaos does not harm the Mother Tyrra. They speak of balance, but it makes no sense. Should Zorntok eat poison with every apple to keep balance? No! By only eating the apple, Zorntok grows stronger. As would Tyrra if we stopped casting chaos.

And the proof of this is obvious! The land is sick, and bleeds in smoke. The local rulers are attacked by their citizens. Strange half creatures are created and stalk the land. Kobolds, well known to all to be greedy beast that eat babies, are allowed to enjoy the tavern. Zorntok does not know if this is a land of lawlessness or of insanity.

Zorntok can not turn his back to such, but does not know what to do. I am after all very young, a mere 40 years old, and these people are like all people, not giving much weight to the word of the youth.

    bah, Kingdom
Perhaps there is some wisdom to this - as I told Avila Segovia san Sebastian, Lord High Warden of Stonegate, I understand and if someone told me they would not accept the rules of the Skunk Clan, we would not accept them into the clan.

Yet, why should I accept any of these as my leader? What have they done? I do not know - they perhaps have some great deads or such. But in a land where nothing is accomplished without money, there seems to be few people of honor. Granted, Zorntok has met people of honor, and there are likely more, but...the very premise that this is there "kingdom", that they 'own the lands', seems without merit.

As alwasy, I will watch and learn. I have found that there is many lessons I have yet to understand and many things I have been wrong about so far.

    Skunk Clan - denied
I am sorry Zorntok, but the Kingdom of Stonegate cannot give official
recognition to a group that does not recognize the lawful authority of
    the Kingdom and its nobles.

I hope you understand that noble titles in Stongate are not given out
according to wealth or bloodline, but according to ability and
willingness to work to protoct the people and uphold the standards of the Kingdom.
I am not a fool, and I know that whenever a person is put in a position
of power, there is an opportunity for abuse, but such abuse is not the
policy of the Kingdom and wherever it is found we urge people to come forward
to seek justice. There are those, such as myself, who owe no allegiance to
anyone but King Balladan himself, and who can act to investigate and
right even injustices committed by a noble.

I believe with all my heart that Stonegate is a just Kingdom and that
the laws of our land are those that no person of good conscience would find
    it objectionable to live within.

In a Kingdom as large as Stonegate, we must insist in fairness that all
persons, noble or commoner abide by and recognize the laws and the
legitimacy of the King's nobles to enforce them and keep order, lest
all we have strived to build fal into anarchy.

I hope that you can come to respect what we stand for -- we would like
nothing more than to be able to recognize your clan as a friend and
    ally.

    Regards,
    Avila Segovia san Sebastian
    Lord High Warden of Stonegate

    CHARTER

Purpose: The purpose of The Skunk Clan is to provide companionship and protection to those that either have no local tribe, are new to the lands, or that need the protection of a tribe. The intent is to create a place where people that have similar beliefs and ideas can gather and enjoy each others company and protection.

Those that join The Skunk Clan should be those that hold the belief that

    -         an individuals expression of their culture is more important that the law of some local Baron

    -         all individuals should be allowed their own culture. The ways of the Barbarian and the ways of the Dwarf are not better or worse than each other, just different.

    -         Loyalty is a choice, not a right due to some rank given due to wealth or bloodline. We serve those that we find worthy to serve. We bend knee to no man or woman.

Rules: The rules of the Skunk Clan are

    1) No stealing

    2) Stand with your clan members

    3) Do not harm innocents

The Skunk Clan does not require members to follow any code other than that and are allowed to follow their own beliefs and traditions. The Skunk Clan does not require members to follow the laws of any specific town, village, or country. Further, we imply no allegiance to any Barony or Ruler. We bend knee for no man or woman.

As with all things, you must pay the price for your actions.

Membership: Membership to The Skunk Clan is achieved by asking. The Elders will discuss this and give you a test, based on your skills. The Skunk Clan is very open to those that are new to the world and will help you to develop your skills as we rely on those skills to benefit the clan.

    For those with no tribe;

    For those that are new to the lands;

    For those that would walk with people that have similar beliefs;

    For those that seek protection

    Stand with us,

and we will stand with you

    headed to Vargas
Zorntok will seek out Guildmaster Dimrak for adventure and gypsy roulette.

"All shall pay homage to my drunkeness at this coming gather. Those of you who wish to find work and/or small tasks in service of the town should find me staggering about, bottle in hand. I'll be paying commissions.

Oh, and there'll be gypsy roulette too, for those foolish enough to play - Guildmaster Dimrak"

Also, for 2 gold a day, Gyllum Thornfellow, Guildmaster of Vargus, will allow me to use the forge.

    Return to Lumberton....
Zorntok has returned to Lumberton and found the lady Sylvia, wife of Jonathan, and admitted I can not find him. Zorntok had thought that he had run off, but I searched far, and now I think he was simply eaten by a bear or some such. Zorntok...is not pleased that I failed at this.

Zorntok also killed some...tree thing. I am also saddened by this, because I do not know if I hurt Tyrra needlessly, or if I saved some poor fellow that was trapped, or...what. Zorntok has much to learn.

Ah, Zorntok is pleased to see that the bard I hired, [info]apollodorusnero, did a nice job of recorder our travels. That was money well spent.

    Return to Lumberton/Guild membership
Zorntok joined the Black Jackals for a bit...but I found that belonging to a group...it was not for me today. I will have to tell Commander Rowana that this is not on Zorntoks path right now.

Zorntok returns to the plains and seeks out the Barbarians to rest with, and then heads to Lumberton to admit to my failure.
    3:19 pm
    Oasis
Zorntok stopped through Oasis for a bit, but I spent most of my time in the woods. I had little chance to explore or met anyone. But it seems a plesant place, of talking tree spirits and dancing fae.

met a man and a hobling
On the way to Oasis, I met a human elder, a man name Apollodorus. He told me he was a researcher, so I showed him the Book Of The Crossing and asked him to help me decipher it. He said he was very busy, working on some “epic” or such, but would help me for one day if I paid him and provided protection. This is his first time traveling it seems. Zorntok has agreed, and hired a local hobling named Kain to act as the body guard.

It will be of interest to see if anything comes from this…

Travel to Oasis - Notes from the Black Jackels
    From Commander Rowena

"....Zeke, a dwarven templar, has mentioned perhaps heading that way. Besides him, Dohati, Tidus, and Acacia are our allies--you will be safe with them. I do have one, well, two requests.

I am sending a wedding gift for the Squires and some potions for Dohati along with your gear--if you could see these get delivered, I would be most grateful.

I am sending three breastplates of varying levels of protection. If you do not go through them all, perhaps you can sell or trade some of them to an armorsmith for scrap material. This is also a good way to get something back on armor that has been breached beyond its usefulness"
